As Catholics, we believe the Eucharist is the actual body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ and is the source and summit of our Christian life. Receiving the Eucharist nourishes our souls and transforms us into the likeness of Christ. The Celebration of the Eucharist is called the Holy Mass. Receiving the Eucharist in Mass is a beautiful gift we have as Catholics and unites us not only with Christ, but with our fellow Catholics. Receiving the Eucharist during a time of sickness or before death strengthens our communion with Christ and his Church, and is our most efficacious means to enter the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.
Preparation for First Holy Communion takes place in the 2 nd grade. It focuses on teaching the child about Jesus in the Eucharist, how to prepare yourself before receiving the Eucharist, and the importance of receiving the Eucharist regularly. Part of preparing for First Holy Communion is participating in the Sacrament of Penance in order to have your soul ready to receive Jesus. The class for both of these sacraments is held on Wednesday evenings from September through April. Use this link to enroll your child. If you are an adult that has never received First Holy Communion, please visit the becoming Catholic page.
